ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bruno C.A. Sebastiani, author of Cancerism

Bruno C.A. Sebastiani (born in Milan in 1949) is an Italian author and independent scholar whose work draws on philosophy, sociology and anthropology to investigate the ecological consequences of human evolution.

Since 2015, he has developed Cancerism, an eco-bio-philosophical theory according to which Homo sapiens behaves within the biosphere in ways structurally comparable to malignant cells within a living organism. The theory traces the deepest origin of this process to the abnormal evolutionary development of the human brain, which enabled humanity progressively to escape ecological constraints, expand its population, appropriate increasing quantities of resources and transform the natural world on a planetary scale.

Sebastiani has developed the theory across seven books, originally published in Italian and subsequently made available in English. His current work is directed toward bringing Cancerism to an international readership and further developing its evolutionary, ecological and philosophical foundations.

He lives in Liguria, Italy, on the edge of a forest.

Books and Project

Cancerism has been developed across seven books, which examine the theory from biological, evolutionary, historical, anthropological, sociological, philosophical and political perspectives.

The first volume, The Planet’s Cancer: Why Humanity Is Earth’s Malignancy, introduces the central thesis. The following volumes progressively extend the analysis to consciousness, civilization, social organization, the limits of intelligence and the broader philosophical implications of the theory.

Sebastiani is currently developing a new book project intended to present Cancerism in a more concentrated and updated form for an international readership.
